Solid Track Record

Our history and the early days.

After completing his graduate studies at the University of Pretoria in 2003, Hein gained practical work experience at Capulet Homes in Pretoria as a Junior Quantity Surveyor(QS) from 2004 to 2006, combining his theoretical skills with the practice of construction economics in real-life work situations.

After completing his Honours degree in 2005, he continued working as a Junior QS at the Johannesburg branch, where his duties included measuring of new projects and the compilation and pricing of new bills of quantities. He was also put in charge of issuing certificates of completion, compiling variation orders and making sure the procurement staff are familiar with the quantities and rates when buying material.

In 2006, Hein moved on to a new position as Construction Manager at Advantage Commercial, gaining experience as on-site Construction Manager, where he gained in-depth and practical knowledge and experience of the commercial side of the construction business. As Construction Manager, he was responsible for delivery of projects valued between R5m and R10m.

Under his guidance, the following projects were completed successfully:

  • Corporate Park Building, valued at R3.5m
  • Green Africa Warehouse, valued at R5m
  • Engelbrecht Kumalu Vennote building, valued at R10m
  • AMG Mercedes Benz Longmeadow, valued at R90m

Hein Ras started HNR Construction in 2007 and by middle 2008, the following projects were already successfully completed:

  • Curves Gym in Middelburg, valued at R1.8m
  • Oosthuizen residence in Middelburg, valued at R2.5m
  • Josipovic residence in Rietvalleirand, valued at R0.5m

By 2014, Hein and HNR Construction had racked up an impressive track record, including the following successfully completed projects:

  • Fourie Residence at Aqua Vista Mountain Estate, valued at R5.5m
  • Haig residence in Midlands Estate, valued at R2.3m
  • Jonck residence in Wierda Crest Estate, valued at R2.1m
  • Van Zyl residence in Glen Eagles, valued at R2.4m
  • Burger residence in Tiegerpoort, valued at R1.6m
  • Tile Africa Pomona, valued at R5.5

During this period of his career Hein worked alongside experienced professional engineers and project managers, gaining all the experience he required to start and successfully manage his own business.

After 8 successful years in the industry, HNR Construction CC was retired and TCQ was formed in 2015 as the vehicle to take Hein Ras and his team to the next level. With Hein’s experience in HNR Construction, his track record of successful projects, and a team of dedicated employees and partners, TCQ is ideally positioned take on new challenges in Construction, Development and Civil Engineering.

TCQ Construction
is currently busy with the following projects:

  • A 26-unit residential complex for the owner in 18th Street, Menlo Park (see side bar) valued at R40m. This project will be completed and ready for occupation in November 2018
  • and will soon be starting on The Pearls, a similar luxury residential development in Menlo Park, Pretoria.

TCQ Civils recently completed a tender for Conic Consulting and Engineering for the installation of civil services in Queenswood Extension 13, the first phase comprising R5.5m roads, storm water, sewage and communications reticulation. Phase Two, which is currently in the pipeline, is for 32 luxury housing units to the value of R55m. 


Current Projects

Ivorywood on nineteenth
In March of 2016, TCQ was awarded a contract to complete 13 luxury residential houses in 19th Avenue in Menlo Park. Venova, who owns the development, and First Global Capital, the Developer, selected TCQ after a rigorous selection process. The total contract value for this up-market development is R30m and the project is completed in June 2017. The luxury units, which vary in size from 245m2 to 260m2, are situated on the highest geographical point in Menlo Park, close to The Club, and are aimed at high-income professionals.




The Pearls
CQ Construction was recently awarded a contract to construct 14 luxury residential houses in 20th Avenue in Menlo Park. The Menlyn Development Node and surrounding areas are a popular destination for young professionals looking for proximity to the N1 highway and Menlyn Maine. The total contract value for this up-market development is R32m and the project is expected to be completed in March 2018.




Shoeman Residence

In February of 2015, Hein Ras was awarded a contract to complete renovations and additions to the Schoeman Residence on the farm Moosrivier in the Marble Hall district. The remoteness of the location as well as technical complexity of the design had at that stage resulted in the previous two contractors being laid off. Hein Ras was brought in because of his technical expertise and experience with this type of construction and soon brought the project under control. The total contract value for this beautiful old farm house renovation amounted to R7.5m and the project is completed in November 2015. The farm Moosrivier belonged to the Former Minister of Transport Hendrik Schoeman, whose son started the renovation on the house. The residence is completely off the electrical grid. It was designed to incorporate its natural surroundings and the trees and natural stone in the vicinity of the were incorporated into the construction. The construction of the house posed some technical challenges, including cantilever slabs, exposed trusses and high-spec finishes. The total area of the new portion of the residence is 500m2 The Pool deck is 320m2.
